The Gurney house is a cottage located amidst the lush greens of Nainital at a 10 minutes' walk from the Mall Road, uphill. It was constructed in the year 1880 for Jim Corbett who used to visit the place during summers.

The Gurney house was constructed from the remains of a dismantled house on Alma Hill which got destroyed in a landslide, hence getting the name.
