The Mall Road in Nainital is synonymous to the city itself. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Nainital city and most visited one too. Running parallel to the Naini Lake, the Mall Road is 1.5 km long and connects the two ends of Nainital town, Mallital and Tallital. It serves as the prime location for culture, food and shopping for the visitors coming from different ends of the world.
Mall road is your go-to place for some delicious food, especially if you are a momo-lover, it is heaven for you. Other attractions include local craft, woollens and candles. The Mall road was originally built by Britishers as a go-to place for the families residing in British colonies between 1841 to 1885. The road has now officially been named as Govind Ballabh Pant Marg but is still referred to with its old and famous name, Mall Road. The road is maintained by PWD and is governed under strict traffic rules in order to avoid any inconvenience to the tourists especially during the peak season months; May, June and October.
The day time is generally crowded as locals and tourists visit the place for shopping and strolling. The mall is home to a number of hotels, shops, banks, commercial buildings, travel agencies and restaurants and cafes.
Traffic Rules on Mall Road, Nainital
Strict traffic rules administer the Mall road traffic which are different for different seasons. Throughout the year, parking is not allowed on the Mall road. There are separate parking areas for tourist vehicles which helps in managing the traffic.
During the months of May, June and October, no vehicle is allowed on the Mall road.

Considered to be the location where Goddess Sati’s eye fell while Lord Shiva was carrying her after Lord Vishnu cut her body into 51 parts, Naina Devi temple stands gloriously showering blessings on visitors and locals. The name of the city, lake and temple are derived out of this legend where Nayan or eyes are the focal word.

From hotel: The mall road is at a walking distance from the majority of the hotels and resorts, located near the Naini Lake. For other hotels which are located a little further, you can hire a taxi or cab or an auto rickshaw.
From bus stand: The mall road is only 1 km from the nearest bus stand, Tallital Bus Stand. You can hire a cycle-rickshaw or auto-rickshaw or a taxi cab to reach the Mall road form there. You can also hire a private vehicle from one of the top car rental companies in Nainital.
From Railway station: The mall road is 25 km away from the nearest railway station, Kathgodam Railway Station. Local taxi cabs are available from the station there to reach the mall road.
From airport: Pantnagar airport is the nearest airport to Nainital mall road, located at a distance of 58 km. You can take a cab or traveller from there to the Mall Road via NH 109.
